Two different stationery cultures

American and European approaches to wedding stationery are different in ways that are easy to underestimate. American couples often expect more information on the printed pieces — detailed itineraries, accommodation options, dress codes, and directions — and a more explicit visual narrative across the suite. European stationery tends toward restraint: fewer words, more considered typography, materials and proportion as the primary language.

Neither approach is better. But they require different thinking — and a studio that only knows one of them will inevitably apply it to both.

At Wedding Mark, we have worked with American couples planning celebrations in Europe, and with European planners who regularly bring international clients to destination venues. That experience shapes how we approach every transatlantic project — understanding where expectations differ and how to bring them together in a suite that feels complete from both perspectives.

How the logistics work

Planning a wedding in Europe from the United States adds a layer of logistical complexity that does not exist for local celebrations. The timeline is typically longer — American couples planning destination weddings in Europe often begin the stationery process 12 to 18 months before the wedding date. Communication happens across time zones and decisions need to be made at a distance.

We are set up for this. All communication is in English. We send physical samples internationally so couples can feel the materials before committing. Digital proofs are detailed enough to support decisions at every stage. We have experience shipping worldwide — including customs documentation and preparing packages correctly for international delivery — so the stationery arrives safely wherever it needs to go.

For couples working with a European planner, we coordinate directly with the planning team. For those working independently, we manage the process together. Every project is different and we adapt accordingly.

Where we work

American couples tend to choose European destinations for the atmosphere and the architecture that is not available at home: the historic fortresses of Spain, the neoclassical villas of Italy, the lavender fields of Provence, the cultural institutions of Germany and Austria.

We have worked on projects in Spain, Portugal, Germany and Italy, and we understand what each of these settings asks of the stationery — in terms of materials, palette and the visual language that belongs to that place.

If your wedding is in a destination not listed here, please get in touch. We work across Europe and are happy to discuss projects in locations we have not listed.

For planners working with American couples

If you are a European wedding planner working with American clients — or an American planner bringing a couple to Europe — we are experienced in this type of collaboration.

We work in whatever way suits the project: directly with the couple, through the planner, or in a three-way collaboration that keeps everyone informed at each stage. We follow your lead on communication style and decision-making process.
